THE planning application for a holiday development for up to 58 people in Dolgellau has been recommended for approval, despite objections.
Proposals have been put forward for the former council offices on Lombard Street to be transformed into a holiday development.
The Snowdonia National Park Planning Committee is currently deciding on whether to approve planning permission for the controversial new development, sought by Mark Sanders, director of Huge Holiday Homes.
There are currently two ‘Huge Holiday Homes’ in north Wales – The Ship Inn, Old Colwyn and The Mountain View, Penmaenmawr.
The ambitious plan has caused much consternation in the town.
The town council expressed concerns that the street is too narrow to deal with an increase in traffic and the property has no security in place.
Natural Resources Wales raised concerns about the potential for flooding.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is worried about whether access to the clinic – currently situated to the rear of the proposed holiday accommodation – will be compromised and is also fearful about “insufficient security provision”.
Other objections included increased rubbish, concerns surrounding stag/hen groups visiting and the negative effect on established tourist facilities.
However, the application is being recommended for approval when the planning committee meets this week.
An officer’s report says: “[Taking everything into account] and taking careful note of the concerns and fears of the local community in terms of the intensity of use, traffic impact and parking it is considered, on balance, the proposal is one that can be supported."
