Wales’ transport minister hopes the ‘decades overdue’ new Dyfi Bridge will boost Machynlleth town centre and bring jobs to the area.
Speaking at the announcement last week of the long-awaited go-ahead for a new £46m bridge, Ken Skates AM told the Cambrian News planners looked at the effect the crossing will have on Machynlleth town centre.
He said: “I think what is absolutely vital is that we take a broad look at the town centre, not just look at the immediate road infrastructure, but the long-term viability of the town centre and ensure that our investments in infrastructure enhance the future prospects of the town centre.
“And I am confident that this will.”

The new bridge, 480 metres upstream from the old one, is anticipated to be completed in 2022.
“It is decades overdue in coming,” said former Mach mayor Gareth Jones, “but at last there is an end in sight to the regular disruption caused by flooding and damage to the bridge by large vehicles.”
The current bridge will remain in place as a foot bridge and cycle path.
