Madam,

I am writing regarding the parking situation at Bronglais Hospital.

I wonder if the workers at the hospital who regularly park their cars on Dan-y-coed realise the problems this causes to residents?

Yet again on Monday our rubbish was not collected because the refuse lorry was unable to pass. This is happening more and more. It means that they have to come again the next day in order to try and collect which, at a time when the council is short of money, is not an efficient use of resources. It also means that an ambulance or fire engine would not be able to pass and so is putting residents’ lives at risk. If residents have visitors, there is little or no space for them to park and it also affects visibility for drivers and pedestrians on the estate.I know problems are also being caused in many other residential areas around the hospital, such as Caradog Road and St David’s Road.

It is quite likely that, when people arrive for work to park in the morning and leave later on in the day, that the estate looks fairly clear, but by later on in the morning it is very congested.

I have sympathy for patients and visitors of patients, who often have enough to deal with without worrying about finding a parking space. I would, however, like to appeal, through your letters page, to workers at the hospital to please use the park-and-ride facility provided by the hospital and think how they would feel if the road or estate where they lived was used as a car park for their local hospital. We would prefer not to have to resort to more formal parking restrictions or resident-only parking.

Yours etc,

Ann-Marie Hinde, Dan-y-coed, Aberystwyth.
