Madam,
I read with interest your article of 18 January regarding the failure of BT to deliver Fibre broadband to the residents of Rhydymain.
Whilst I understand the frustration of people over government contracts and their failure to deliver, to describe the residents of Rhydymain as ‘distraught’ regarding the issue seems to be a piece of journalistic licence. I would be interested to know how many local residents were approached for their views by Liz Saville Roberts?
I first moved into the village of Rhydymain some five years ago. When I arrived the average download speed was 0.5 mbs and it was impossible to stream ‘catch up tv’ or other speed-hungry applications. The situation now is that I get a steady 19-20 mbs via the old copper cable which is perfectly adequate for all my needs and in fact my grandchildren comment when visiting how fast our broadband is compared to theirs in a Midlands town.
One other thought, it’s great having the option of Fibre but I wonder when looking at the monthly cost of the service how many local residents would be prepared to or in fact could afford to swap. I think we should give BT some credit for a substantially improved service.
Yours etc,
Pete Bell, Rhydymain, Dolgellau.
