Storm Atiyah ripped across the Llyn Peninsula this week, leaving hundreds of residents without electricity, disrupting motorists and damaging Porthmadog’s Christmas trees.

The Met office issued a yellow weather warning for wind on Sunday and recorded a wind speed of 77mph in Aberdaron that night.

The wind damaged an overhead powerline in Pwllheli leaving hundreds of homes without electricity. Residents in Criccieth were also affected.

The strong winds on Monday brought down a tree on the B4405 between Minffordd and Talyllyn, blocking the road for over an hour.

And in Porthmadog, high winds damaged the town’s Christmas trees.

The trees – one in the park on Porthmadog High Street and the other next to the harbour in Borth y Gest – are thought to have been affected by the strong winds on Monday morning, and were pictured leaning over, with barriers blown down.
