I appreciate that Nikky Govier (Letters, 11 February) is possibly being sarcastic in saying “ the powers-that-be know that EV’s are unfeasible” and it’s “part of a masterplan to protect the environment by making it impossible for most people to own cars”.

But do they know?

Since Gridwatch.co.uk proves that UK wind energy only averaged 6,000MW in 2020, and was almost nil at times, there won’t be any cars in the UK after about 2035, apart from even more diesel/petrol engine imports, further destroying our economy. The electricity will not exist!

Our best option is hybrid cars to reduce fossil fuel usage.

Diana Heeks (Letters, 11February), thinks that “wave and tidal power” will solve the problem of “global overheating”.

Well, Mother Nature may well do that! She gave us minus 23 Celsius, the lowest UK temperature for 25 years in Scotland last week!

Diana Heeks mentions Salter’s Ducks wave generators. Has anyone thought of strings of wave or tidal generators parallel to the east coast of England to, not only provide some renewable electricity, but also to take the immense power out of the waves that are rapidly eroding the soft sediments of the east coast?

Very expensive, but a valuable double whammy if ever there was one.
