An Aberdaron woman will raise money for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association to thank them for supporting her and her one-year-old daughter, Sioned.

Rhiannon Wyn Jones (pictured with Sioned) has chosen to host the Aberdaron Big Breakfast on Wednesday, 22 January, to help CLAPA to continue to provide “amazing” support for families like hers.

The 36-year-old will host the local Farmers’ Union of Wales Big Breakfast event at a friend’s café, Caffi Ty Newydd in Uwchmynydd, Aberdaron, from 6.30am to 2pm. Funds raised will go to three different causes, two decided by the FUW and by the host. Rhiannon said: “I chose the charity closest to my heart.”

Rhiannon’s daughter Sioned was born in August 2018 with a cleft lip and gum notch.

Rhiannon and her partner, Robert Jones, 37, found out about the cleft at a routine scan.

“After the 20-week scan we had to have a 3D scan in Wrexham,” Rhiannon explained.

“Within an hour of the confirmed cleft lip we had Helen Thompson [from CLAPA] phone us up and organise to come and see us.

“What they’ve done and the help they’ve given us is priceless.

“We had amazing support to begin with before she was born. We really didn’t know what to expect as every cleft is different.

“She was born on 2 August and then our cleft nurse came to visit the next day. She helped us with feeding; sometimes with a cleft you have to have a specialised bottle.

“She would come to visit us every three to four days for two weeks just to make sure we were okay.”

The other two thirds of the money will be donated to the DPJ Foundation, which provides mental health support to those in rural communities, and the Crown at the National Eisteddfod in Boduan next year.

For those who want to attend the Big Breakfast, you should pre-book by calling Rhiannon on 07769 152243.
