PLASCRUG school and the county council are to look into a host of safety measures outside the school following a row over illegal parking.

It was reported in the Cambrian News in December that mother-of-two Kelly Cable was fighting for safer parking outside the school by posting pictures of cars parked illegally on Facebook - sparking alleged “threats and intimidation” from other parents.

Since then, Mrs Cable, who suffers with ME, has been lobbying the headteacher Menna Sweeney, Ceredigion County Council and the police in order to stop parents parking on double yellow lines and in disabled and taxi parking bays outside the school.

Mrs Cable said that traffic wardens had returned to patrolling the area after a three-year absence. She said wardens now regularly show up to issue illegally-parked cars with tickets.

“There were tickets issued last week,” said Mrs Cable.

“The traffic wardens are going down there at around 2.55pm or 3pm, which is a good start.

“But of course, people aren’t going to park there if they see them then.

“We think what needs to happen is that traffic wardens show up at 3.20pm and start issuing tickets.

“The taxi drivers have been co-operating with us, but one taxi firm is avoiding taking contracts to pick up and drop off at school because of the problem with parking.

“This clearly is affecting their revenue and the council needs to be aware of this too.”
