A Tywyn artist is hoping to raise £3,000 for the RNLI by producing a series of prints of historic and iconic lifeboats from around the UK.

Sean Chambers will start the series of 12 prints with a picture of a Liverpool Class boat stationed at Barmouth for over 30 years.

Sean, who also runs a gardening business, will shortly complete the first print and will then be moving on to lifeboat that served in Orkney.

He said: “The series of paintings I’m working on will depict 12 historical and iconic lifeboats from around the British Isles.

“One of the first nominations I received was from Richard Judge, the owner of the beautifully maintained RNLB The Chieftain.

“This Liverpool Class boat served the Barmouth station from 1949 until 1982.

“This was the ideal starting point for my project as I live in Tywyn and my wife’s family are commercial fishermen in Cardigan Bay.

“A portrait of this boat and its crew as they would have appeared will be my first available print.

“From the sale of each print £5 will be donated to the RNLI.

“Over the series of 12 images I aim to raise a total of £3,000 for the RNLI.

“The next boat to be depicted will be Grace Patterson Ritchie that served as the Orkney lifeboat from 1966 until 1988.”

Sean, who has also illustrated children’s books, said he had been commissioned to carry out several artworks of boats which had sparked his fundraising for the RNLI.

He said: “Over the last 12 months I’ve returned to my love of illustrating and found work producing commissioned boat portraits for private clients around the world.

“Using social media has helped me find a home for my work and I have completed work for charter boat owners, commercial fishermen and sports fishing vessels.

“I’ve also worked on children’s book projects, I am producing a series of characters for Ysgol Penybryn and have received a recent commission from Tywyn Council to illustrate an information board that identifies the rare bird species of the Dysynni and Broadwater.”
