Madam,

I have to say, like so many others, I was disappointed with the planning inspector’s decision to allow Tree to go ahead at Borth.

In his explanation, published in the Cambrian News, he clearly states that public opinion is, on its own, insufficient grounds for refusal or acceptance, no matter how much ‘local’ feeling there is - and clearly a large majority of Borth residents say that they do not want to be subjected to such an imposing so-called ‘creative’ object.

I have to assume that the strong support from both Elin Jones and Ben Lake were considered of greater value than the objections of a public that supported them in their quest for office (in order, we would have hoped, that they would strive for a majority public representation).

I for one will not vote again for either of these or anyone who asks for voters’ support, then turns their back when they should be showing support for our strong objections.

It is my intention, in the next few weeks, to start a petition to send to the Lottery Arts Funding for them to deny support for Mr Davies, as it is so greatly contrary to the local population desires or any material benefit and therefore offers no community or local reward or enjoyment for which such funding is intended.

If, after all, efforts still fail and Tree is built, I hope it is done so without incident with a fully-presented health and safety plan for its delivery, erection and in maintaining its stability and structural integrity. There would be no joy or smugness (as is currently being enjoyed by Mr Davies) in saying in the future ‘we told you so’.

Yours etc,

Phil Turner-Wright, Dol-y-Bont, Borth.
