A LLANBEDR man has grown sunflowers which are more than a dozen feet tall.

Ken Ford, 83, is a keen gardener and has managed to harvest a bumper crop of the colourful flowers this year, which tower over him, his wife and granddaughter Ruby.

“I guess the growing conditions have just been right this year, they’ve really shot up,” Ken told the Cambrian News.

“I’ve experimented and moved them around the garden and that seems to have done the trick.

“The rabbits had my green beans though so I wasn’t all that lucky, I only managed to salvage a few of those!”

Mr Ford will now collect and dry the sunflower seeds in order to feed the local birds over winter.
