NEW improved plans for the proposed Bow Street railway station have been unveiled.

The £6.76m station, which will include long-term parking to help attract commuters into Aberystwyth, is expected to open in March 2020.

The latest plans have been unveiled which show the layout of the station and a new roundabout that will access the site and replace the current junction between the A487 and the A4059 Lovesgrove road.

Bow Street councillor Paul Hinge welcomed the latest plan and said the changes to the initial plan had improved the scheme and included the opportunity for the station to grow in the future.

He said: “It’s another improvement on what was a really good plan originally. It’s offering the facility itself a more aesthetic and appealing position.

“The siting of the roundabout, which is going to vastly improve the junction, provides much needed safety for entering the village.

“The planners have taken into consideration all possible users with car parking, bicycle racks and plenty of disabled spaces and innovative use of the bus interchange moulding in with the platform where the trains stop.

“It’s also pleasing to note the planners, in conjunction with the Welsh Government, have had some future proofing to this project by ensuring an additional extension to the platform can be provided at a future date if this project expands in the way we hope it will.”
