Bus users in Dolgellau have met with officials to give their opinions on public transport in Meirionnydd.

The event was held at the Free Library last week, where people had the chance to fill out questionnaires and pass on their comments, concerns and questions.

Gwynedd Council is looking to establish a network to address the needs of the people in the most efficient and cost-effective means.

Cllr Linda Morgan who attended the meeting, said: “I am very pleased that Gwynedd Council is holding these open days in many areas.

“Here in Dolgellau there are a lot of requests for a better service to Llandudno via Blaenau Ffestiniog. This is very important for many people attending Llandudno Hospital and Abergele Eye Hospital via Llandudno.

“Llandudno is also a very popular place for elderly and disabled people to visit and stay, which is very important for a lot of people.

“It’s good for their wellbeing and health, and to socialise with friends.

“We must also remember all the elderly Welsh local people who are placed in the Llandudno area in EMI residential homes, away from their families. Here there is a very important need for families to visit their loved ones in the homes on a regular basis. Not everyone has the luxury of a car.

“I used to visit my late father Idris Morgan, who was in a home in Llandudno, twice a week, at that time it took me all day from 9am to 10.30pm to visit him and travel there and back to Dolgellau. The times of the buses have now changed and I would not be able to do those very important visits today because the bus service has changed.

“Also a concern for many is the Tywyn return journey from Dolgellau. This is very poor and needs to improve so that families can travel to Tywyn to see their families in the homes."
