In a recent Cambrian News Cllr Ray Quant wrote in defence of Gold Command stating that sixteen months ago most people, were in favour of Safe Zones.
I know that councillor can occupy quite a rarified atmosphere but I would quite like to see the documentation that backs this assertion up.
Cllr Quant goes on to say: “It has been said, even by senior councillors, that the council has become an officer led council.Personally I don’t buy into it.“ (Cambrian News, 25 August edition).
In Cllr Quant’s council, information flows freely and everyone is kept informed so that they can better discharge their duties. Cllr Quant states that he ensured that the contents of Gold Command’s weekly meetings were distributed to councillors.
The admission by Cllr Ceredig Davies, who’s Ward covers virtually whole of the Aberystwyth safe zones, that he was unaware of the precise date of the reopening of the roads would seem to contradict Cllr Quant’s assertion that all information was made available.
This suggests that information is not flowing freely through CCC as Cllr Quant would have us believe.
If Ceredigion County Council really is, as some suggest ‘officer run’ then the cabinet must come clean about how democratic the whole edifice of the county council is: Gold Command or no Gold Command.
