Madam,
I have to admit to being more than a little perplexed. Two people living in the same village both against bypass plans who cannot agree how long it takes to travel the length of Llanbedr in summer traffic (Cambrian News, 15 December – Robin Ward: ‘£11m Llanbedr bypass will save drivers just 49 seconds’; Graham Tottle: ‘Answer is a cheap option with traffic lights and zoned parking’). Both are wrong, as I and many other people can testify. Last summer it was sometimes taking 40 minutes. Dare I suggest that maybe they were on holiday, or even another planet. And as for 20 days of disruption, try more like 70 days, most of last summer.
It is a medical fact that the body has a great infinity to take in carbon monoxide, which is toxic, in preference to oxygen. One of the writers lives on the main road, he says. Wouldn’t you think he would welcome some air containing less carbon monoxide or does he enjoy it?Also, wouldn’t you think people living on a main road with poor or nil parking places would welcome a rise in their property values as houses off a main road attract higher prices than those on them. And it would be less dangerous for ingress or egress of properties with the bypass. If we are to stop huge lorries or wide loads blocking a lovely village, as they attempt to get to Shell Island or Llanbedr airfield, we need the bypass. It will also open up a wider market for the airfield, creating hopefully more jobs for the young people in the area in an attempt to stop them leaving the area.I will gladly support the ‘No Bypass’ vote if there is free-flowing traffic. Local council, get to work, time is running out. You will get many, many, more supporters if you put in place off-street parking and free-flowing traffic.
Lastly if all it needs is a narrow path by the side of the main road to keep your children and general public safe and it is quite cheap, where is it? Why are we waiting or does someone have to die for action to be taken?
Remember It is in our interests to see Llanbedr thrive. It’s where we go to drink, have our hair done, buy papers. Also, there are holidaymakers, and some have holiday lets in Llanbedr.
Yours etc
John Watt
