A LLANBEDR woman has shaved her hair for charity in memory of her late sister.

Jane Taylor-Williams had her head shaved in aid of the North West Cancer Research Fund (NWCR).

This courageous act in the depths of winter was done in memory of her sister who died of pancreatic cancer.

Local hairdresser Rachel Greenfield deftly carried out the head – shaving in the Victoria Inn at Llanbedr with a large audience of on-lookers supporting.

Acting chairperson of the NWCR Harlech Committee, Myfanwy Jones gave a brief insight into the work done by North West Cancer Research.

The charity plays an important role in the promotion and development of world-class research within the North West of England & North Wales.

Indeed, a large proportion of the research is underway at The Bangor Institute of NWCR.

All of this, of course is aimed at furthering the ultimate purpose which is to fight, diagnose and treat cancer.

Jane’s brave achievement and fundraising efforts have managed to raise nearly £1,700 which has been forwarded to NWCR headquarters.

To put this into perspective, £10 will buy 1000 tubes to perform vital experiments in. £100 will keep cell lines alive for a year, which will be used to identify new therapeutic targets and to understand resistance to current treatments.

NWCR is very dependent on the fundraising activities of local groups & donations In Memorandum.

The Harlech Committee is the only group in this area (the nearest are Mold and Machynlleth) and they are in need of new members to help in their endeavour to fight against cancer.

It is of profound importance that they continue this fight, as recent statistics show that one in two of us will be touched by cancer at some point in our lives.
