A student from Dolgellau has proven her stamina and skill at this year’s Sandman Triathlon in Anglesey.
Mali Jones, who is studying for a Foundation Degree in Sport Science (Outdoor Recreation) and is also a member of the Wales Triathlon team, came first in the junior section in the gruelling triathlon.
The race starts and ends in one of Anglesey’s most treasured spots – the incredible Newborough Forest, an exclusive area of 700ha woods adjacent to the world-famous Llanddwyn Beach.
Mali started off with a cold 400m sea swim, followed by 25km on the bike and then a 5km run.
Mali described the conditions as challenging at times with the sea being very cold and rough, while the biking section had some hills to conquer and the run weaved through the woods and onto the sand.
There was a presentation at the end of the day to announce the overall top three positions and the overall series winners.
Mali came fourth in the under-23 category and won the junior and youth Welsh triathlon series.
It is estimated that around 1,000 participants competed in the sporting event, which offered the option of four different distances as well as a duathlon.
