MEMBERS of the Newcastle Emlyn Under-10s football team were treated to a day at the Liberty Stadium as guards of honour for the Swans’ recent game against Liverpool.

Organised by coach Haydn Morgan, it proved a terrific opportunity for the youngsters, but getting selected was not exactly plain sailing.

“I sent an email to the Swans back in 2015 asking if there was any chance of the boys being involved on a match day in some way,” said Haydn.

“I was told, due to the high demand, that it’s done on a draw basis.

“I heard nothing more until 10 months later when I had an email saying we’d been chosen for the first home game of the season against Hull.

“There was then a mishap on the Swans’ part as they’d double-booked us with an Irish touring team!

“We were therefore given the opportunity to have a game of my choice and being a Liverpool fan there was only going to be one choice!

“It was, I hope, an experience of a lifetime for the boys.
