A TEAM of Pwllheli youngsters are finally due to set off for a “once-in-lifetime” trip to the continent.

Just weeks before the Welsh national team make their way to France to battle it out in the European Championships, Pwllheli under-14s are travelling out to the Netherlands to compete in their own international football tournament.

However, the trip to Eindhoven very nearly did not come to fruition after the team found out their flights had been cancelled back in early January.

Rebooking the plane tickets, which were refunded without explanation, cost many hundreds of pounds that the team simply could not afford, leaving the entire football tournament hanging by a thread.

Fortunately, due to a huge local and national response including a visit from Welsh manager Chris Coleman, the extra money was sourced through donations from well-wishers from around the country.

Now the team, seen here sporting their new football kit for the tournament, will be taking to the skies today (Friday) to take part in the Juliana Malden Cup.
