Madam,

I am writing in response to Ian MacIntyre’s letter in the edition of the Cambrian News dated 14 September.

Liz Saville Roberts is a dedicated and hard-working MP who has an excellent record of challenging the Tory government in Westminster over many issues that are important to her constituents and to Wales as a whole.

Just last week she spoke and voted against the Withdrawal Bill which is a blatant power grab by the Tories and has the potential to take back powers that have been devolved to the Welsh Assembly government. Some Labour MPs voted for this Tory bill.

Mr MacIntyre refers to Labour’s promises to end austerity (which would be an excellent thing to do!) but doesn’t seem to realise that they could already be doing this using the devolved powers they have in the Welsh Assembly Government.

Labour control the NHS and education in Wales, two subjects the left wingers in the Labour party in England campaign hard on.

However, following the decision by the Tory Government to lift the pay cap in England, Wales is set to become the only country in the UK with a cap on NHS workers’ pay.

Labour in Wales could have committed to ending the pay cap long ago, but now they’re dragging their feet behind the Tories.

Regarding support for Welsh hill farmers, Plaid Cymru MP Jonathan Edwards challenged Theresa May during Prime Minister’s Questions about this very issue.

Unlike Labour who have prevaricated endlessly over Brexit, Plaid Cymru have always strongly advocated remaining in the Single Market which is essential for Welsh industry and farming.

Thousands of Welsh jobs will be lost to a hard Brexit as, unlike England, Wales exports more than it imports.

So, rather than demanding that Liz stops challenging Corbyn, perhaps Mr MacIntyre (who I believe is a Labour supporter, if not an actual party member) might like to challenge his own party to use the power they already have in order to do the things they promised to do in their manifesto?

Yours etc,

Margaret Hall, Maes yr Odyn, Dolgellau.
