WELSH rugby will come together at an international match on Saturday to mark the passing of an Aberystwyth legend.

Eifion Gwynne, who died after being struck by a car following a funeral in Spain, will be remembered by the Welsh Rugby Union ahead of Wales’ clash with Australia at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff this weekend.

The 41-year-old father-of-three was involved in the accident after attending the funeral of family friend Emrys Thomas.

Eifion played rugby for Aberystwyth and Llandovery rugby clubs for over two decades.

A WRU spokesman said the union was “saddened by the tragic news” of Eifion’s passing.

“The WRU will make an announcement before the match on Saturday via our on-field presenter in which we will pass on the thoughts and sympathies of the WRU and the rugby community as a whole,” the spokesman said.

“During the announcement a picture of Eifion will be put up on the Principality Stadium screens as a further sign of respect.”

Eifion’s body is due to be flown back to Wales soon, but funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised.
