LEGENDS of Penrhyncoch Football Club are dusting off the cobwebs as they prepare to play the club’s high-flying first team for charity this weekend.

The match will kick off at 2.30pm on Saturday, with a night of entertainment to follow in the football club from 7.30pm. All proceeds will be shared equally between Cancer Research UK and the football club.

Having just been promoted to the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance, a league which is second only to the Dafabet Welsh Premier League, Penrhyncoch FC will come up against clubs with far bigger budgets this season.

Cancer Research UK is a charity which is close to the heart of the charity match organiser, Jason Thomas, who lost his grandmother to the disease.

“Last year I held my first charity event to raise money for Cancer Research UK,” said Mr Thomas, who owns A1 Property Letting with his wife Sarah.

“I lost my grandmother to cancer over 20 years ago and I feel that it is a disease that touches everybody — whether it is a relative or a friend, we all know someone that is or has been affected by cancer.

“This year, I have decided to organise a football match between the Penrhyncoch FC Legends and Penrhyncoch FC. The legends team are players who have played for Penrhyncoch FC in the past and are over 40 years old now.

“The Penrhyncoch FC team are the current players from the first team and the reserves.”
