A Tregaron family whose son died in a collision eight years ago say lessons have not been learnt following the death of a 90-year-old man on the A487 at Blaenporth.

Barrie Taylor, a retired Royal Navy storeman, was struck and killed by a car as he attempted to cross the busy trunk road after visiting his wife’s grave.

Friends and neighbours later criticised Dyfed-Powys Police for leaving the body lying in the highway for around six hours covered by a blanket provided by a resident.

The incident a week last Saturday served as a painful reminder for Diane and Steve Blakeman of the death of their 22-year-old son, Dean, who was involved in a fatal collision with a car at Llanarth in January 2010.

Mrs Blakeman said: “Our son was robbed of his dignity by Dyfed-Powys Police, and now it has happened again.

“Obviously, no lessons were learnt from our tragic event, which shows a complete lack of respect for my son, Mr Taylor, and both of our families.

“I’m devastated that this can have happened again.”

“I was appalled to hear that this poor man was left in the road for so long following his tragic death after being in collision with a vehicle,” Mrs Blakeman told the Cambrian News.

“Our son, Dean, was too left lying in the road for over six hours, with nothing to cover him other than a duvet donated by a local resident.”

Dyfed-Powys Police has apologised and said Mr Taylor’s body could not have been moved earlier due to "operational" reasons.
