Some comments on last week’s article (25 March) concerning Fairbourne’s lost beach access.
Our old beach access was a three-sectioned concrete ramp which ran down to the sand from the promenade and provided safe access to young and old to one of the most beautiful and safest beaches in North Wales.
Unfortunately two sections of this ramp were damaged by heavy vehicles and later by winter storms. People continued to use the undamaged section to reach the beach in safety. Under the illusion that the access to the beach would be replaced, some residents asked for the removal of the damaged ramp and eventually the whole structure was removed, leaving no safe access and there it remained for nearly three years.
Contrary to the comments of the council spokesman in your article the pebbles have moved around even more and with greater velocity since the ramp’s removal.
Fairbourne is not asking Gwynedd Council to fund a new beach access but to approve the construction of a replacement which will fit suitably and safely into the environment at no cost to the council!
So please just let us get on with it! Sometimes the experts are the people who live in the area and know and love it.
