A “LIFE changing” opportunity for two castaways to relocate to work and live on a remote Welsh island is up for grabs.

The owners of a small but scientifically and historically significant island two miles off the coast of the Llyn Peninsula is looking for two individuals to become its new wardens.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to manage Enlli (Bardsey), a Nature Reserve in Wales featuring an abundance of sea birds and seals, has arisen and presents a opportunity that will suit two individuals applying together, for a challenge like no other.

The Bardsey Island Trust is hunting for a warden and assistant warden to live on the island with a house provided, providing care and maintenance of the island’s 10 letting houses.

The pair will step into the shoes of well-respected Siân Stacey after she leaves this autumn after three years in her dream job.

The post offers the warden £16,500 and an assistant £8,000 a year with accommodation and utility bills included.

Trust Chair, Rod Gritten said: “We are sad that our current manager, Siân Stacey - who has provided Enlli with the enthusiasm and hard work that this type of post needs - is leaving us after three years in the post.

“We will also miss her partner Mark Carter who has also worked tirelessly in assisting her in the role”.

This rare job opportunity does not open often and last time it was advertised the post attracted more than 300 applicants from around the world.

The new wardens will be expected to make Enlli their home and a two-bedroom house is provided with the job.

“This job can be incredibly challenging, and requires a lot of determination and passion, but it is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done,”said Siân

“It’s been great to be part of the island community, working with the help of volunteers to ensure Enlli remains the unique place it is whilst improving the experience for guests and visitors.

“I will really miss falling asleep to the sound Manx Shearwaters overhead and waking to the sound of seals singing in the bays.”

The Wardens will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the Trust’s ten letting houses, ensuring visitors enjoy their stay and recruit and manage the many volunteers who help out every year as well as be an active part of this small isolated community.

The ability to speak Welsh is essential for the role of Warden.
