Madam,

Re the latest tragedy on our shores in Tywyn, and the one last year in Barmouth, it seems to me the local councils are burying their heads in the sand. They have said that this lifeguard service is needed, so how many more have to die before there are lifeguards on our treacherous sea shores.

The latest victim was a teenager and so were the last who lost their lives in Barmouth. The sister of Blake Ward has pleaded for the introduction of lifeguards. Surely the council should, in light of these tragedies, do so right away before we have more tragedies. The councils will be failing us if again nothing is done. Our long hot summer entices people to cool themselves in the sea and many do not know of the hidden dangers of our seas. The very presence of lifeguards does a lot to educate on the dangers.

Yours etc,

Jean Miles, Harlech.
