Madam,
Re your article last week on the plan for the Llanbedr bypass, there is a vastly cheaper and better alternative to the Gwynedd Council £12m proposal.
As was said, there is widespread worry in south Snowdonia about the dangers of gridlock at the Artro bridge in Llanbedr, which occurs sometimes between 11am and 2pm. It is the only route available.
What if an ambulance is trying to get through and is trapped? It’s the only route from all directions.
But for three weeks the problem went away.
A 60-metre length of broadband cable was being laid in a trench, on the hill, and this was automatically controlled by traffic lights.
The result? Vehicles passed through in flocks in one direction, and then in the other.
No gridlock and pedestrians could pass in safety where walking and cycling had been dangerous.
An immensely important indicator – lights at the bridge and the problem will be solved. And with no need for the £12m bypass proposed by Gwynedd Council.
Yours etc,
Graham Tottle, Maes Artro, Llanbedr.
