A FERWIG woman and her pet dog are aiming to walk 1,000 miles from their home to the Isle of Skye this summer to hopefully raise around £10,000 for three charities dear to them.
Lisa Flude, a retired 57-year-old management and leadership lecturer, and her mongrel Meg will be setting out on 1 April for a five-month hike due to end on 31 August.
Travelling in a campervan, they will undertake a circular walk every day to rack up the necessary mileage.
Lisa will be raising money for the Air Ambulance as well as The Haemochromatosis Society, whilst Meg will be raising money for the Dogs Trust.
“I just had this feeling what would happen if I walked out of my gate, turned left or right and just kept walking until I’d had enough,” Lisa told the Cambrian News.
“The idea just grew from there and because I wanted to raise money for charity it began to have some structure.”
Lisa admits the idea of walking 1,000 miles is somewhat daunting, however. “I’ve been in denial for the past 12 months, but now it’s kind of imminent,” she laughed.
“Land’s End to John O’Groats is not even 1,000 miles, but it’s absolutely do-able because we have five months to complete it.”
