Madam,

Having to come on the early 585 into Aberystwyth on Wednesday, 8 August, to take part in the excellent walking tour from the museum (thanks to John Weston, our guide), I was firstly appalled at litter-strewn Pier Street and thought why do people drop litter.

I stopped to pass comment to a nice young man who, with his litter-picker, was taking pride in cleaning up the street. He commented that it was the seagulls and bags offer no defence, but bins might.

I thanked him for doing his job and taking pride in his work. He was a charming young man and a really good advert for Ceredigion County Council, very smart and cheerful.

I also have difficulty finding a bin to put litter into, the 585 bus shelter being a good example. I have often taken litter from the area home on the bus to recycle or bin.

So lots of people do take pride in Aberystwyth and we all should do our bit to pop any stray litter into a nearby bin if available.

Yours etc,

Marilyn Brown, Llangeitho, Tregaron.
