St Padarn’s Church
A SPECIAL welcoming service took place over the weekend of 25-26 June when Bishop Wyn ordained 12 people to serve in the Diocese of St David’s as Priests and a further 12 to serve as Deacons. Two of the ordinations are of great importance to the Llanbadarn Fawr Benefice with the Rev Lyn Dafis being ordained Priest and Lynn Rees being ordained as Deacon. Both men are licensed to serve across the four parishes of the Benefice Llanbadarn Fawr, Penrhyncoch, Elerch and Capel Bangor. There was a special and well attended service in St John’s, Penrhyncoch, to welcome the two men to the Benefice in their new roles. This was attended by members of the congregations of all four Parishes, and the Eucharist was celebrated by the Rev Lyn Dafis. Wonderful refreshments were enjoyed in the church hall after the service. Initially the Rev Lynn Rees will be shadowing the Vicar, Rev Andrew Loat, as he learns the ropes of parish minis-try, and will develop his own gifts as he becomes part of the ministry team. In addition to the two Lyns and the Vicar, this includes another curate, the Revd Heather Evans, and three licensed Readers, Carola Mercer, Keith Jones and Darryl Walters.Lynn Rees assisted Andrew Loat on Sunday, 3 July at the 11.15am service in St Padarn’s which included a Baptism.
North Ceredigion Churches Heritage Trail - St Padarn’s
ST PADARN’S is very much part of the very successful local Church Heritage Trail which stretches from Eglwys Fach in the north of the county through to Strata Florida in the south. The church, as are many of the others on the trail, is open every day for visitors, and several churches, including St Padarn’s, are recording more names and addresses in their visitors book. At Llanbadarn, a good number write about their links to St Padarn’s and the village. A recent entry in the St Padarn’s book, was the Rev and Mrs Robbie Jones. Robbie Jones, after ordination in St David’s Cathedral, served as a curate in the parish from 1986 to 1989, before moving on to take charge of the parish of Newport in Pembrokeshire. Robbie and his wife will be fondly remembered by many members of the present congregation.
