Clwb Ffrindiau
FOR THE meeting on Thursday, 10 March, the group met at the New Inn to celebrate St David’s Day and the beginning of Spring. Chairman Margaret Howells opened the meeting by introducing Carol Williams of Age Cymru Ceredigion who explained that she was in the process of mapping information on all local clubs and activities for people over the age of 50 in Ceredigion and was asking for the group’s help in providing information for our area.
The meeting was tinged with sadness, as we had lost two regular members, Barbara Tebbutt and Beryl Evans who was a founder member of the club. Margaret asked that they stood for a minute’s silence as a tribute to two very lovely people that were no longer with us.Landlady Yvonne Edwards served up a delicious traditional meal of cawl with plenty of bread and an abundance of local cheese, followed by creamy rice pudding or Yvonne’s mum’s homemade Apple Pie with thick cream or custard. While enjoying a cup of coffee, the group was entertained by Eirwen James who gave us an illustrated talk on her (birthday present) trip to Patagonia travelling to Buenos Aires and on through the pampas to the town, where she had met up with a number of inhabitants whom she had first met at school when they were sent back to Tregaron as small children to ‘polish’ their Welsh. It was an adventure for Eirwen who had never flown before. She described it as a real eye-opener. Susan Wood gave the vote of thanks both to Eirwen and to Yvonne and her family for their fantastic hospitality.Clwb Ffrindiau meets next month on Thursday, 14 April at 2pm at the New Inn.
Attendees are asked to bring items (photos or mementos of lives well lived) which invoke memories of olden days and to share these with everyone.
Any senior citizens (50+) from the Llanddewi Brefi area who would like to join us are very welcome. Contact Mary Pearce on 01974 299228 or chairman Margaret Howells on 0974 298801 for more information.
