IT was a very pleasant warm afternoon when Jan Spicer welcomed the members of Llanfair WI to their March meeting. Meirion was played by Sue Travis and members sang enthusiastically. Apologies were noted and minutes agreed. Good wishes were sent to Betty Langley after her recent fall. A welcome was given to Margaret Selley. The meeting began with the speaker for the afternoon, Paul Kay, a freelance underwater photographer and part time employee of the Marine Conservation Society. Paul’s talk was on the life beneath our very own sea, Cardigan Bay – and conservation area. He took us on a tour deep into our waters showing excellent photographs of sea life, animal and vegetable, to the life that can be found on our beaches. Members were in awe at his wonderful photographs and surprised at what was living in our bay. Paul also talked about the conservation programmes that were taking place to ensure we keep our wildlife. This included beach clearances and the problem of plastic to be found during these collections. After lots of questions from members Jan spicer our president thanked him warmly on members’ behalf.A special Welsh tea followed with delicious Welsh cakes, kindly made by Gwen Pettifor and bara brith cooked by Jan Spicer along with an array of biscuits, savoury and sweet. The meeting continued with several announcements. The secretary informed members that the resolu-tion on the banning of micro beads had been selected ti go forward to NAGM. Members were also encouraged to at-tend the annual spring council on 26 April. The newsletter was read and attention was brought to oncoming events. Members voted to join Club Cant for 2016.
