THE ROTARY Clubs of Newtown, Llanidloes and Machynlleth have announced that this year’s Across Wales Walk will take place on Saturday, 18 June.The full walk is 42 miles but there are shorter stages, such as 26 miles, 16 or eight miles — a great way to get fit, see some of mid Wales’ most beautiful countryside and raise funds for your favourite charity.Details and an application form can be found on www.newtown-rotary.org.uk. See pictures of recent walks on the Facebook page The Rotary Across Wales Walk.The clubs will be donating any proceeds from this year’s walk to The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales Appeal.The Rotary Club of Llanidloes enjoyed their annual thank-you night (see pictures, above) which was held at the rugby club. Throughout the year, the club hosts many fund-raising events and volunteer their services for the benefit of the community. However, the club undertakes a few large activities which require far more help than the current membership of 24 can handle. The Wales Rally GB was one such event that highlights the army of volunteers that gather to help. The rotary are responsible for entry to certain stages and ensuring the carparks are marshalled with military precision to ensure maximum capacity. This high-profile rally which visited the local area was a complete success despite Storm Abigail who threw everything she had at the marshals. There are many occasions such as bonfire night or the Across Wales Walk which witness many friends of rotary, wives and partners come out in support making these events run smoothly. Before all those in attendance enjoyed their carvery meal and entertainment, club secretary John Cradduck passed on his thanks on behalf of all the rotarians.
Coffee morning
CYTUN, Churches Together, held a coffee morning for the Llanidloes Refugee Fund, at Chatwood, Longbridge Street, on 16 January. There was crumpets and toast and cakes for sale. A grand total of £341.77 was raised. Thanks were given to all who
