Book talk

EMILY Chappell, an ex-Llanidloes High School pupil, will be at the Great Oak Bookshop on Friday, 19 February, at 7.30pm, to introduce and talk about her new book, What Goes Around. Since getting her Masters Degree, Emily has cycled round the world solo.

Chatwood

CHATWOOD holds Woolly Wednesday every second Wednesday of each month. All knitters are welcome, for an evening of knitting, chatting and sharing ideas. It starts at 7.30pm, with refreshments. Charity bingo

LINDY Jones would like to thank everyone who supported the char-ity bingo games throughout 2015, held at the Rugby Club.An amazing £5,000 was raised for various local charities. She thanked Jackie, Jenny, Ailsa, Sally, Dianne, Yvonne and Dwynwyn; Tina for calling, Liz and Helen for doing the bar; the Rugby Club for providing the room; Only Legs Aloud for providing tea and coffee and biscuits and Helen Woosnam for doing the posters.

Poppy Appeal

THE Llanidloes branch of the Women’s section of the Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal organiser thanked everyone who helped raise £3,683. Special thanks were given to the Army Cadets for the street collection, Trudy for her range of activities, the Co-op which allowed two days of collections, the house-to-house collectors, Francis, Carolyn and Lisa and all the premises who had boxes. And finally all those who donated.

Bra bank

LLANIDLOES Inner Wheel is asking for support from ladies in the form of bras to fight breast cancer. They are asking for your old wearable bras in a bra amnesty to raise money and also provide bras where there is a short supply. The Bra Bank is in Llanidloes Pharmacy and from there unwanted bras will go to Africa as well as Against Breast Cancer receiving a donation based on the weight of bras collected.

Charity cards proceeds

WOOSNAM & Davies News has sent two cheques from the sale of charity cards sold over the festive season - £70 to Marie Curie and £35 to Barnardo’s. Staff thanked customers for their generosity.

Refugee support

FOR February and March, the Llanidloes Refugee Support group is collecting wind-up torches and hot water bottles to be sent to refugees. The collection points in Llanidloes are Natural Foods, Great Oak Street and the Old Mill. Any donations of these items will be extremely welcome.

Rotary Fellowship

THE Rotary Club of Llanidloes enjoyed a fellowship evening at their last meeting. The evening is a chance for the Rotarians to enjoy each other’s company. Pictured are two old soldiers, the youngest and oldest members of the Llanidloes club.
