Rotary
THREE local Rotary clubs went head to head last week in a clay pigeon shoot at the world-famous Mid Wales Shooting Centre.
Llanidloes, Machynlleth and Newtown Rotary Clubs share a close friendship and annually combine their efforts to host the Across Wales Walk.
The three clubs retired after the shoot to the Red Lion in Trefeglwys for a curry where Machynlleth Rotary president Roger Seagrave was presented with a bottle of wine as the evening’s marksman.
The Llanidloes Club thanked everyone who supported “Bikes for Africa”.
Rotarian Charles Cowan has been collecting bikes for over two years for African children who live in remote communities, and a long way from their nearest school.
Without reliable, affordable, motorised transport the only way they can get to school is to walk.
In searing heat, their journey to education on foot is a daily epic mission. Having a bicycle makes a world of difference for these children, their families and also their communities.
The bikes have left Llanidloes and are bound for the HM Service who refurbish the bikes with a programme run by inmates in prisons around the UK, before heading off to Africa.
Llanidloes Rotarians have one more meeting before their August scatter month and will be treated to a talk from Llanidloes Explorer Scouts.
