Milk bottle tops collection

MILK bottle tops are being collected again. Woosnam & Davies News have again started collecting clean plastic milk bottle and drinks tops to help buy a special wheelchair for a child in Newtown, drop off point at Woosnam & Davies newsagents, Llanidloes, tel: 01686 412263.

Air Ambulance scarecrows

THE Upper Severn Scarecrows raised £1,521.20 for the Air Ambulance and has been handed over.As a further fundraiser some of the scarecrows were at Llangurig show on Saturday, 13 August, again aiming to collect donations for the Air Ambulance.

Refugee support

MEMBERS of Llanidloes Refugee Support Group got together to pack 300 individual bags of cumin, paprika, turmeric and chilli which together with salt was bagged up to send to the refugee camp at Calais. Volunteers there send out 1,000 bags daily so that families can use them to cook their own meals with rations of rice and lentils. A further 182 bags were packed up by participants at the Quaker summer camp in the Rheidol Valley, which were also sent from Llanidloes. Apparently they all arrived at the exact hour the camp ran out of these supplies.

Tadpoles

TADPOLES is Christian fun for babies, pre-school children and their parents, carers. With song time, story time, crafts and activities and snack, on Wednesday, 7 August, 21 September, 5 and 12 October at St Idloes Church Hall from 10am to 11.30am.

Gardening Club Show

LLANIDLOES and District Gardening Club are holding their annual members flower and vegetable show on Saturday, 27 August, at the Community Centre at 2pm. Open class for non-members: vase of mixed flowers and open class for children – pressed flower on a piece of A4 card and bug, 8 inches maximum.

Van Institute bingo

THERE will be bingo in aid of the Van Institute on Wednesday, 17 August at the rugby club.Doors open 7.30pm, start at 8pm. 50p entry for adults includes tea/coffee and biscuit.

Book launch

TIA Jones will talk about and read from her book The Curlew’s Cry at the Great Oak Bookshop, on Friday evening, 19 August at 7.30pm, with refreshments.

Free Guided Walks of Llanidloes

JOIN a walking tour of the historic Market Town of Llanidloes. Walks start from outside the Town Hall at 10.30 am. There is no need to book. Turn up Wednesday to Saturday, May to September. No difficult hills to climb and should take 1 to 1½ hours. For group bookings and other times telephone 01686 414916.

Café Church

CAFÉ Church is a church but not as you know it. Meets the second Sunday of every month at 6pm in St Idloes Church Hall. Relax with an informal service, guest speakers, singing and chat and cake.

Millennium Garden

LLANIDLOES Millennium Garden committee are pleased to announce that they have been awarded the Green Flag award once again this year.

The Green Flag award is organised by Keep Wales Tidy in recognition of the excellent commitment given by the small band of volunteers who help maintain this green space to a high standard.

If anyone is interested in helping us to continue this work we meet for an hour every Friday morning from 9am and we really need more volunteers. Please contact Lynne Evans on 412318 (chair of committee) for any information.

Exhibition in Y Fan

THERE is to be a repeat exhibition, with augmentations, of photo-graphs, postcards and paper collections in the Van Institute on 20 and 21 August, (Saturday and Sunday). Features the Van and Mines, Llanidloes and District. 11am to 7pm, admission £5. School children free, no tickets, pay at the door. With Violet Rees and Dorothy Jones. In aid of a public access defibrillator for the Van and for the upkeep of the Van Institute.
