Community council
LLANRHYSTUD Community Council’s AGM was held on 4 May to appoint officers for the 2016/17 year. They are: chair, Cllr Glyn Davies; vice-chair, Cllr Ceredig Morgan; internal auditor, Anthony Morgan. Present at the meeting were nine councillors (one councillor was unable to attend because of ill health), the clerk and three members of the community.Following the AGM the regular monthly meeting was held to discuss the correspondence and concerns raised by the community. The county council had not responded to the letter sent last month regarding a pedestrian crossing on the A487 but had responded to the request for a flashing school warning light on the B4337. It reported that the unit, promised to us last year, had reached the end of its useful life and that there were no further resources available to erect a new one. In other matters arising from last month the second cradle swing seat has been replaced and a second quote sought for fencing around the play equipment. The two consultations received from Ceredigion County Council were discussed. There were no observations on the off-street parking consultation, but there was agreement to the proposals to change the speed limit to 20mph in the school area and to 50mph on the B4337 from Hafod Peris to Hafod Newydd. In reply the community council asked for two additional proposals to be considered as part of the consultation. Firstly, that the 50mph speed limit be extended so that the B4337 became a 50mph road from Hafod Peris to the point where the existing 30mph begins at the entrance to the village. Secondly, that the 20mph around the school be extended to cover the walking route to school from the village post office to the ford. Therefore that the speed limit on the B4337 from the existing 30mph sign to its junction with the A487 would become 20mph. Two residents of Church Street, who were present at the meeting, requested a change to the speed limit on Church Street to 20mph. The councillors agreed to add this request to their reply to the above consultation on changes to speed limits along Ceredigion’s council roads. Two other matters raised from the community were the need to cut back on overhanging trees in Cwm Mabws, this will be passed on to the county council, and that dogs had been seen running off the lead on the playing field again despite having highlighted the problem in last month’s report. The community council asks dog owners to be responsible, and to note the notices on both entrances to the field that say ‘No Dogs’. A reminder also, that there is a public footpath adjacent to the field which you can use instead of walking your dog through the field. The next meeting will take place on 1 June at 8pm in the Memorial Hall.
