Garden Club
THE AGM was held on Wednesday, 4 November. There were 19 people in attendance and apologies were received from eight others. The chairperson gave her report and an overview of the year’s events. These had included some varied and interesting speakers throughout the programme; our popular and well-attended plant sale in May; and another successful show in August despite a season of many challenges for vegetable growers. Flower gardens had fared more successfully. A vote of thanks was given to Pat Griffiths who had once again organised the summer trip, incorporating visits to a nursery for specialist plants, a guided tour around a garden and woodland brought back from dereliction, and a garden centre outlet. The weather was quite divine on the day and members said they were shocked at the news headlines in recent weeks that that very garden was a victim of the excessive rainfall and flooding in Anglesey, sweeping trees and garden structures into a river valley below. The membership were reminded that there is an important event in store this year, to celebrate 70 years since the club’s foundation, and thoughts and suggestions turned to how this should best be done. The new committee was elected and various items of club business dealt with, followed by adjournment to an end-of-the-season buffet before the Christmas recess. The 2016 programme begins on Wednesday, 3 February at 7pm prompt in Y Ganolfan with a talk entitled Wood to Clogs.New members and visitors are very welcome.
