A LLWYNGWRIL pub has had its heated seating area given a fresh look by members of an art group based in the village.

The Garthangharad pub was worked on almost every day for five weeks by members of the group to get the project done.

Manager of the pub Jane Jenkins said: “The intention was to open up the barn as a welcoming heated and covered space for our customers in a fun and unique way.

“It was suggested to me by a villager that the local art group might be interested in assisting with the idea as they had been unable to meet up due to coronavirus restrictions, and it would offer a great opportunity for them to get together and paint on a large scale but in a coronavirus safe way.

“Several members expressed an interest and came to the pub to take a look at the area and discuss what could be done.

“Over the last four to five weeks members of the art group have attended at the pub almost daily and worked on the project.

“The art group has been going for 20 years or so and its members are both from Llwyngwril and nearby villages.

“Before lockdown in March 2020 they met weekly at The Ganolfan in Llwyngwril for three hours.

“They are all amateur artists who enjoy trying out new techniques and ideas. Prior to lockdown the group would have visiting artists three or four times a year who would do workshops with them.

“They would also hold an exhibition of their work over the August Bank Holiday and would sell refreshments and hold a raffle to raise money for a local charity.

“Throughout lockdown they have kept in touch via their art group Facebook page where they share ideas, artists to study, online exhibitions to view etc.

“The Barn will open fully this week and we cannot thank the art group enough for their help and assistance, not to mention the amount of time they have dedicated to the project.”
