A LLYN mum whose son was born 10 weeks early has set up a play group as a way of meeting new parents.

Mother-of-four Kim Williams set up Grwp Ni early last year as a way of getting herself and her son out and about and meeting people.

Her son Caio, now 20 months old, was born 10 weeks early, weighing just two pounds and 13 ounces.

Kim was induced early as Caio’s heart rate was oscillating dangerously and his birth was doubly traumatic as the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.

Fortunately Caio survived the experience and is now a happy, healthy little boy.

However, Kim admits she kept him away from other children at a young age for fear a cold or infection could have devastating consequences for her “miracle baby”.

It was only after a year that she realised just how lonely she had become and how isolated Caio was.

“I’d had two children before – now 15 and 16 – but I’d forgotten how lonely you could become when I had Caio,” Kim, who now has another newborn, told the Cambrian News.

“I thought about setting up a club and found there was real interest, people were willing to travel from across the Llyn Peninsula.

“We meet every Thursday – except the last Thursday of the month – at Capel y Drindod, Pwllheli and it works really well.

“Even if it’s just a quick chat or a panad, everyone has the opportunity to get out of the house and meet people in a similar positions to themselves.

“I know people who had no friends at all before the club but now they have their own support group.”
