LOVE is in the air for one Meirionnydd town. Research carried out on behalf of TripAdvisor has shown that Dolgellau (pictured above) is one of the most popular places in Britain to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The research showed that Dolgellau was the eighth most popular destination where lovers chose to spend the day. Dolgellau has seen an increase of 69 per cent in the number of enquiries received for Valentine’s Day to compared with previous years. The research blog describes the chocolate-box community as: “An old market town which lies in the lush, unspoilt landscapes of the Snowdonia National Park. “Awash with trickling streams and rivers spanned by stone bridges, this is Wales at its most idyllic.” Cllr Mandy Williams-Davies, economy cabinet member for Gwynedd Council, said: “St Dwynwen’s Day or Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse for couples to find the perfect location to spend a night or two. “It’s great to see lovely locations like Dolgellau being seen as a romantic place to celebrate Valentine’s Day. “It’s obvious from the survey that a growing number of people are choosing to take their loved ones to quieter destinations for the special day where there is an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. “Without a doubt, Gwynedd and locations such as Dolgellau have a lot to offer those looking to enjoy a rural holiday.”
