TRIBUTES have been paid to “the most loveable boy you could meet” who was found dead next to the River Teifi.

The body of St Dogmaels teenager Michael ’Mikey’ Nicholas, was found by teams of police and coastguards scouring the river banks near his home at Brynhyfryd last Tuesday.

A former pupil of Ysgol y Preseli in Crymych, Mr Nicholas, 17, was a member of St Dogmaels Football Club and his death comes soon after the loss of club stalwart Steff Thomas who died after being struck by a car whilst walking home in the early hours earlier this month.

Secretary Wyn Rees said: “Michael was born and bred in St Dogmaels and he’s been a part of the football club for years.

“He was a very quiet, unassuming, and polite person. Nobody expected this, it’s a huge shock.

“He’s a massive loss to the football club and the whole area.”

Officials and players called off last weekend’s scheduled Costcutter League Division One home game against Newcastle Emlyn and the Division Three fixture between SDUC and St Dogmaels Reserves in Lampeter as a mark of respect.
