Proud of my Welsh heritage, my loyalty is being stretched to the limit by Gwynedd Council’s lazy, short term and probably counterproductive answer to the housing shortage.

The 100 per cent council tax premium now to be placed on our Band C hillside hafod takes tax higher on our holiday home than any of our family’s suburban family homes. We would gritour teeth and accept this if we felt it helped, but our current experience suggests it won’t.

Recent storm damage to our cottage needs urgent attention to roof and chimney, interior drying out and redecoration.Sadly, it is impossible to find more than one local builder in a position to supply damage report and estimate to meet insurers’ demands for two quotes.

The council’s Housing Action Plan names £3.8 million, to be raised from the premium, to build new affordable housing. Where are the builders? I do not see an action plan for investment in local business, nor a commitment to commission local contractors when they get round to it.
