AN Aberystwyth teenager who battled a life-threatening brain condition has announced her first fundraising event will take place on Saturday, 28 October.

Lucy Evans has set herself a massive fundraising target of £50,000 for the Encephalitis Society after she spent seven weeks in hospital battling NMDA encephalitis.

She has now confirmed that a special fundraising night will be held at Park Lodge with a charity auction and musical entertainment on 28 October from 7.30pm until 11pm.

Entertainment will be provided by two of the singers who featured as part of Eleanor Powell’s Sgarmes on BBC 1 TV show Pitch Battle, while Huw Bates will host the charity auction offering a range of prizes, including a special night in a hotel at Lake Vyrnwy.

Tickets for the event, which cost £10, are available by contacting Lucy on [email protected] or through Park Lodge directly on 01970 636333.

The event is the first of a series of events that Lucy is planning to organise as she looks to meet her ambitious fundraising target.

Lucy said she had decided she wanted to raise vital funds as well as awareness about the condition, as the stain of encephalitis that Lucy was struck by is so rare only one in two million people are affected by it and it can often be misdiagnosed as mental illness.

She said that raising awareness about the illness and its symptoms was important following her treatment.
