LAMPETER lung cancer campaigner Jane Holmes was presented with an Inspiration Award after completing the gruelling Snowdonia Marathon at the weekend.

Jane, who was running for the Roy Castle Lung Foundation, has already raised £18,753 since being diagnosed with lung cancer despite being a keen marathon runner who has never smoked.

Her award - given to someone who has “touched and inspired” the Snowdonia Marathon - was a specially commissioned picture of Snowdonia by a local artist.

Jane, who lives with husband Steven at Ffarmers, was hailed for her dedication, positivity and fundraising when nominated for the award by race organisers Jayne Lloyd and Matt Ward.

She completed the race – widely regarded as one of the toughest marathons in Britain - for the sixth time and third time in succession, post surgery.

Steven said his wife was now aiming to reach a renewed cash target of £20,000.

“We’re also trying to beat the stigma that it’s just older smoking men getting lung cancer,” he added.

“Jane was 43 when diagnosed, a non-smoker and a marathon runner.

“We often remind people: ‘If you have lungs, you can get lung cancer’ and even with a life-limiting diagnosis or one less lung, you can still run a marathon - anything is possible.”
