A CLIMATE change activist from Machynlleth who claims she was spied on by undercover police is calling for cash donations to help her and other alleged victims participate in a public inquiry.
The Undercover Policing Inquiry was set up in 2014 after it was revealed that undercover officers sent to infiltrate political groups had deceived women into forming intimate relationships, stolen the identities of dead children and gathered information on grieving families.
Kim Bryan, who has campaigned on various issues such as the environment and refugee rights, claims she was spied on by undercover police officer Mark Kennedy, while campaigning on climate change.
“I was good friends with one of the police spies,” she told the Cambrian News.
“I was part of an educational group that was doing workshops around climate change and debt.
“Mark infiltrated us and became part of the project and paid for us to travel to Ireland and Germany.”
She is asking for donations in order to help people like her inform the inquiry of their experiences.
She said: “Myself and other victims of undercover police spying are core participants in the Undercover Policing Inquiry and we have launched a crowd-fund to raise money to support our — and all core participants’ — full participation in the inquiry.”
