Music club
FOR its Golden Jubilee, Machynlleth Music Club is presenting a series of concerts, each devoted to one of the major forms of chamber music. On Friday, 19 February, the London Bridge Piano Trio with baritone Ivan Ludlow take up the baton. The repertoire will be based on the chamber and vocal music of Schumann and Mendelssohn. There will be side-by-side translations of the songs, and house lights will be set at a level compatible with following them during performance.
Panto
THE New Dyfi Players are presenting their 35th panto The Lord of the Bling. If you are interested in joining in future productions or want any information about this year’s, contact Anne (Miscellannea) at 01654 703916 or [email protected]">[email protected] panto will be held at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen during February half term week. Performances are on Thursday 18, Friday 19 and two on Saturday 20 February. The Saturday matinee starts at 2pm (doors open 1.30pm) and all three evening performances start at 7pm (doors open 6.30pm). Darts
FORESTERS A and Dwynant continued their domination of the Dyfi Valley Darts League in round 11 and, with just seven rounds of fixtures to play, left third-placed Foresters C trailing in their wake by a significant 34 points. Concert
A FORMER monk, peace activist and musician from Nicaragua will be performing in Machynlleth on Saturday, 13 February.Paul Baker Hernandez is an ex-Trappist monk who made a guitar out of scraps of rubbish he found in the monastery. On leaving the monastery, he travelled to South and Central America where he became involved in the fight for social change. Encountering the music of Victor Jara - the Chilean singer-songwriter tortured and killed after the military coup in 1973 - Paul undertook to spread his ideas through music, words and political action.Paul will be performing in the Iron Room, in Eglwysfach, near Machynlleth along with local musicians, Tony and Christina. He will be playing Latin American songs and melodies interspersed by his own songs, lampooning capitalism. The evening will begin at 8pm. For more information, call Tony on 01654 702166.
Dementia
PAT Griffiths, dementia support worker for Alzheimer’s Society, will be holding a drop-in information session at the library on Wednesday, 17 February 11.15am - 12.30pm.
