Civic Society

Tuesday Club

PENNAL Tuesday Club meet on 13 September where it is hoped a good turnout will enjoy ‘A conversation with two Victorian women’.

Frances Power Cobbe (b.1822 in Ireland) was a campaigner for women’s rights. Mary Charlotte Lloyd (1819 near Corwen) was a Welsh artist who was passionate about animal rights. They met in Italy, lived together in London and ended their years at Hengwrt Hall, Llanelltyd, near Dolgellau, where they are buried together in the local churchyard.

This costumed presentation (with slides) by Jane Hoy and Helen Sandler is a lively and entertaining exploration of their long partnership and some of the conversations they had with friends about their lives and passions.

The club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 2.30pm in Canolfan Pennal. New members and non-members welcome.

Midday Concerts

THE Tabernacle’s popular midday concerts continue on Saturday, 10 September and Wednesday, 14 September.

On 10 September, the Tannery will be the venue for Osian Penry Dance (clarinet) and Euryn Jones (piano) as they play music by Weber, Gade, Huristone and Ravel.

While, in the Tabernacle itself, Rhian Griffiths and friends will be the feature on 14 September. Starting at 12pm, there is free admission to both concerts. A collection will be made with all proceeds to the Tabernacle Education Foundation.
