Machynlleth youth club needs new volunteers to keep it open.

The youth club was established four years ago as a volunteer led community project.

It relies on charity funding following the cuts in youth work provision by Powys county council in 2016.

The club, currently based in the Canolfan Glyndwr has provided a place for young people aged 11-16 to go in the evenings, and some occasional sessions over school holidays. More than 400 youths have been registered from Machynlleth and surrounding areas. The club delivers a range of sport, creative, social and community focused activities each week, and partners with local organisations to extend the range.

There have been regular calls to the community for volunteer directors to join the team, with limited take up so far. However, after being involved for over four years, the present team are looking to hand over the reins to new directors. Unfortunately, if there isn’t adequate numbers identified by October half-term to ensure a robust handover, then club will have to close.

The club is looking for a minimum of four adults, who are willing to step up, with approximately six hours a month to offer. The role requires diverse skills, so people from any background will be able to contribute. A clear enhanced DBS check would be required.
