As cinemas reopen, major renovation work is underway at Neuadd Dwyfor in Pwllheli.

With £900,000 worth of work to improve facilities, the theatre and cinema will remain closed for the time being, as capital investment by Gwynedd Council is used to improve the facilities.

The foyer will be redesigned, an accessible toilet created and auditorium and balcony seating improved.

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for economy and community, said: “Neuadd Dwyfor is an important facility for the residents of Llyn and the surrounding area and there is a lot of enthusiasm to see the building when the work is finished.

“We are also pleased to have secured an additional regeneration grant from Welsh Government which will enable us to offer flexible working areas at Neuadd Dwyfor, including the ability to hire two meeting rooms as temporary daytime work space or office.

“Our aim is the improvement at Neuadd Dwyfor will be an investment that will contribute to the regeneration of the high street in Pwllheli, and become a focal point for the cultural activity of the area.”

Work to improve the library in the building will begin shortly. It will be closed until the work is completed, but books can be requested by calling 01758 612089 or using the online form - www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/library. The library will deliver items to your home for free.

Work is also underway to create a new website and branding for Neuadd Dwyfor which will be launched in the coming weeks. This will be followed by the re-opening of the refurbished library with the theatre and cinema opening in the autumn.

The team is keen to hear what type of activities residents would like to see at the venue. Contact @NeuaddDwyfor on social media, or email [email protected]u
